Eurostar have announced a £700m investment in ten new trains for their fleet to be ready by 2012 (Original Source).

It has caused a major argument with various bodies in Paris as it was expected that Eurostar would order the new generation AGV trains from Alstom. Instead they have signed up Siemens of Germany who make the ICE trains for the German network as well as trains for the rapidly expanding Chinese market.

There was also some recent discussion about the suitability of the German-designed trains to travel through the Channel Tunnel. The German rail company, Deutsche Bahn, are expected to offer a London to Cologne service from 2012.
