From 2014, owing to expansion of the European rail network, it will become possible to take Eurostar trains direct to Amsterdam or Geneva from London St. Pancras. Eurostar have ordered 10 new trains which will carry up to 900 passengers, 150 more than at present.
Deutsche Bahn the German rail company, has started making plans to link London with Cologne and Frankfurt. These will start running from 2012.
The British colalition government is pressing ahead with the construction of High Speed Two (HS2) which will link the midlands with not only St Pancras in London by high speed rail but also the High Speed One (HS1) which will run directly to the Channel Tunnel and the continent.
